Operator Training: Class A-B-C Operators

Why do you need it?

The Federal Energy Policy Act (the Act) of 2005 includes specific training requirements for operators of underground storage tanks (USTs). The purpose of these requirements is to ensure that UST operators are trained in the regulations applicable to their USTs, as well as the proper operation and maintenance of USTs. The Act mandated that each state develop its own Operator training program. The USEPA then issued Guidelines that provided the basis for what states must specifically include as a minimum in the training programs.

Three classes of storage tank operators – Class A, B, and C – have been established and tank owners must designate individuals for each Operator Class for each site to be trained no later than August 8, 2012.
